eldoLED PowerPIX shine at Fête des Lumieres
EINDHOVEN - The Fête des Lumieres was first held in Lyon in 1852 to coincide with the inauguration of the statue of the Virgin Mary which was erected at the top of the Fourvière hill. The people of Lyon would spontaneously light up the city's facades by placing little candles on their window ledges before descending onto the streets. This evolved into a tradition which over the last ten years has mutated into an outstanding urban lighting event.
The 2014 Festival of Lights saw two impressive installations featuring eldoLED PowerPIX, one permanent, one only for the four days that the festival lasts.
The permanent installation is the new lighting design for the municipal library of Lyon. For the permanent lighting of the Book Silo at the Part-Dieu Library, the north and south building facades evoke the edges of a book on a shelf, while the spiral stairway will shine with a warm light in reference to the gilding on ancient books.
The eldoLED PowerPIX 1 are used to light the east facade, symbolizing the emergence of digital communication and the exchange of knowledge at international level. The horizontal lines of cool white lighting points emerge from both sides of the facade in different lengths, fading toward the center in a decrescendo of luminous intensity.
Contracting authority and owner of the project is the City of Lyon, lighting designer is Guillaume Jeol from Atelier Roland Jeol, and the installation was executed by eldoLED partner Soliled.

The temporary lighting installation at the festival was the reproduction of the Laniakea Supercluster, which was defined in September 2014, when a group of astronomers published a new way of defining superclusters according to the relative velocities of galaxies.
The lighting installation by artists Simon Milleret-Godet and Jérôme Donna lets you dive into the depths of a cosmic experience and confront light particles that scintillate by the thousands in the dark. A hypnotic ballet of clouds, clusters of lighted dots and stars that, just like a galaxy, shape themselves into constellations and then disintegrate.
The 965 DMX controlled PowerPIX 3 with RGBW LEDs allowed for a mesmerizing show that mimicked the different colors and intensities of the stars that were projected onto the building behind the installation. Production was done by the City of Lyon Public Lighting Department, and the installation has been nominated for the 2014 Trophée des Lumières.
